I loved the dogs and the story...Love all the Johansen books.
This tale of woe and others by Iris Johansen are merely a version of the romance novel genre. Here, as in the other attempts at writing, a pseudomacho female main character finds herself in a woeful situation which is resolved by her strident, larger-than-life efforts, together with her militaristic, can-do love interest. These tomes are rife with pages and pages of sappy, soap opera dialogue that can easily be flipped through without missing any of the plot. This authoress uses the male anatomy as a basis for swear words to apparently authenticate her status as one of the good ole boy writers. Incredibly, a book cover blurb claims that these stories are on the NYTimes best seller list. Much better contemporary female mystery/adventure authors are Patricia Cornwell, Sue Grafton, and Sara Paretsky. Now, those ladies know how to tell a story.
OK, albeit a bit far-fetched story line.
I loved this book. Read it and only it from start to ending. I usually am reading a few books at once but I started Dark Summer and read it right through without reading any others until finished. Truly would recommend. Great characters and fun but thrilling book.
It flowed very smoothly. It was so smooth I could not put the book down. I love dogs...so I was hooked there. You liked the characters so well it was as if a great friend was in horrific danger and you needed to help them to a safer place. Good plot .....great character s . The plot threw me a curve....but I loved the ending. You may not be able to put the book down till you finish either. So entertaining.
The book was a delight to read, it has action, romance, mystique, and intrigue. A very fast read and easy to read.
Dogs are such healers of troubled soles. Is there magic in that? It's all in the way you accept dogs, them can seem to read your mind and give you great comfort if you believe. But you have to believe! Great dog story.
